SAFEHOSTNAME

Can someone tell me where SAFEHOSTNAME comes from? That is what shows up as the host name to my Fusionpbx server. I never set that up that way. I set up a different host name. Just wondering how that got in there?

Try cat /etc/hostname

What does that come back with?

SAFEHOSTNAME

So you have the answer, it is the name of your server.

Thank you Adrian. When I set up the server on Vultr it asked me for a server host name. I set it up as ABNETWORKS. When I log in to Vultr and check, it still shows the host name as ABNETWORKS. That is why this SAFEHOSTNAME is so confusing.

If you want to change your host name you only need to edit a few files:

/etc/hostname
/etc/hosts
/etc/mailname
/etc/ssh/ssh_host_ed25519_key.pub
/etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key.pub
/etc/ssh/ssh_host_ecdsa_key.pub

and depending on the build possibly /etc/motd

My main concern was how it got changed. I guess it will always be a mystery.
