How to check voicemail from external call?

I know there's a way to check your voicemail by calling your external DID. I just can't seem to find the documentation on it. Can anyone help me out here?

I want to call my own DID, when my voicemail picks up, press a button and then check my voicemails.

There is a default setting called "remote_access" by default it is set to false. This may be what you are looking for.

I'd rather actually use the facility to email voicemails as an attachment rather than exposing this interface to the world. I've seen a good few hacks using remote voicemail.

Yes, we have seen a fair few voicemail boxes hacked in the past.

Yes we mostly push people to use voicemail to email but this one person "must" have access remotely.
