I'm new to the PBX world and I have managed to get 2 phones setup and to talk to each other.

The only way I have managed to to it so far is to choose the same number for everything like so:

But I am confused what does the Extension password and these device ID's/Passwords have in common. What are they used for?
Are they required? I read somewhere they should be the same as the extension number but if that is the case why be able to
modify them at all?

Thanks.

The devices record is just a collection of data that defines how you would like to provision the phone. User ID and Auth ID are often the same but they dont have to be, it is the Auth ID and password pair that is important for authentication.

You would normally enter the extension number in both the UserID and AuthID fields and copy the auto generated extension password from the extension record to the password field on the device record. You need to be able to modify them because with a phone that has multiple lines (Yealink T27 has six), you may end up provisioning some lines or extensions that are not provided by your given instance of FusionPBX.
