Call Detail Records Destination

When examining my CDR's it shows the destination for inbound calls that are routed to a ring group as the actual extension number that answered the call.
The only time time the ring group number is showing as the destination in the CDRs for me is for "cancelled" inbound calls, meaning, the caller hung up and it wasn't answered.

Can't help you there. You are out of date and on an unsupported OS.
You should be running at least 4.4 on Debian 8 or 9 for the best results.

Would I upgrade from 4.0 to 4.2 then to 4.4 ? Or would it be better to get off Ubuntu and spin up a Debain 9 box with 4.4 and somehow backup and restore to the new? Is this supported/documented somewhere? I see this.. http://docs.fusionpbx.com/en/latest/advanced/version_upgrade.html but not sure about moving to another server.
It would probably be much more efficient to stand up a new 4.4 install on Debian 8 or 9. You can create a backup script on your server that will take a backup the Postgres database which is documented here:

Here is my backup script for your reference which includes package and source backups: https://pastebin.com/fxvAQM66
Then you would rsync your backup files from your old server to your new one and restore it.
This is a process in itself, especially if you aren't experienced in working with databases. You'd need to drop your database on the new server, restore your backup using pg_restore, etc. There isn't any publicly accessible FusionPBX documentation on this process but it is included in the documentation that you are provided when you take the Admin Training class, which I'd highly recommend.
