We have picky clients who will make a big deal of dialing *8[ext] instead of **[ext] as was set in their previous system for many years.
I can't seem to figure out how to change this in dialplan. Currently, its set to ^\*8(\d{2,7})$. , I tried changing it to ^\**(\d{2,7})$ and also to ^\*\*(\d{2,7})$. I disabled intercept-ext that used ** and even completely deleted intercept-ext from dialplan so nothing uses ** but I still can't make it work. Not sure what I'm missing. Please help.

Did you update the number and the destination_number in the dial plan edit page?

destination_number = ^\*\*(\d{2,7})$

Watch the phone display when you dial **. Some phones will cycle to another character when you quickly press double * or #.

yes, thats where dial string goes, into destination_number field. phone its self does not change ** to anything else as its same phone that's been working with previous system. as mentioned earlier , string ^\*\*(\d{2,7})$ was tested as well as ^\**(\d{2,7})$ , intercept-ext is completely deleted from dialplan. its still refusing to work.
